Job redesign aims to increase job efficiency and productivity through the systematic review of business processes and systems. It also aims to enhance the scope, value and attractiveness of jobs, as well as to improve workflows and working environments.
As our economy continues to restructure, some workers will need help to cope with the changes. Many will need to be retrained. Those who are unable to make the adjustments in both skill and expectations may remain unemployed. In particular, our lower skilled workers, those with secondary education and below are most at risk of being structurally unemployed. Redesigning jobs and systems only represent part of the overall process. For job redesign to be effective, employers must be prepared to retrain their employees to equip them with new skills to perform more complex tasks or a wider scope of work in a more effective and efficient manner. With increased skills sets, staff could potentially benefit from a more performance-based remuneration package, better career prospects, and higher job satisfaction. Employers could also benefit from better-trained and more productive staff.
This Job Redesign Programme represents the collective commitment of the various industry partners to raise skill levels and enhance the professionalism of the conservancy industry so as to re-create more good jobs for Singaporeans. |
